CPL 2023 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The second match of the CPL 2023 season at Warner Park takes place on Thursday evening when the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots look to get their first home win of the Caribbean Premier League campaign when they host the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Both these sides have already been frustrated by the weather but the Amazon Warriors are probably in a better position of the two as they have only had one match on their ledger so far. Both go in search of a first win here.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots did not start their home leg of the tournament in the manner they would have wanted when they slipped up to the Jamaica Tallawahs. It might just be that the Tallawahs are the cream of the crop in the competition though so they shouldn’t dwell too much on that defeat and instead ensure that they build on their performance and come up with the sort of display which gets them off the mark.

Were they to lose this match and have half of their home leg of the tournament has been and gone then they would have cause for concern but at the minute they are still in a fair position if they can maximise the next three games. If that is to happen then their top order is going to perform a whole lot better than it did in that game on Wednesday. If they do that and give their bowlers something to defend it would give them a bit of hope.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

This competition has been going on for more than a week and the Guyana Amazon Warriors have been on the field for just five overs so far. They will be glad to have left the rainy St Lucia behind them and get to work here in St Kitts, although as was the case in St Lucia you do wonder if they are going to be suited by the challenge that is in front of them in terms of the conditions. They will need their batting to come to the party you suspect.

This is definitely an Amazon Warriors side who will improve the longer the competition goes on. They have a spin unit which they can rely on but their seamers are generally quite expensive and they are on a ground where we don’t really get much in the way of assistance for the spinners. This is simply a case of who can smack the ball over the ropes the most. Guyana aren’t as hindered in that regard as they used to be though so they might secretly fancy their chances.

Key Players

Andre Fletcher looked in really good form with the bat in hand on Wednesday night but just as he was getting ready to move through the gears he got out. The Patriots will be hoping he kicks on and gets a big score here.

Odean Smith feels like he has a big part to play in this match. He is one of the more senior players with the ball in this Guyana Amazon Warriors bowling unit and there is no boundary in this competition which is big enough for him at the end of an innings.

Betting

The first match at Warner Park on Wednesday wasn’t as high scoring as most games usually are on this ground but that doesn’t put me off expecting a number of runs in this one. This is the highest scoring ground in the competition but to be fair to that Jamaica Tallawahs attack it bowled to its full potential and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots batters were found wanting. I don’t see as much jeopardy in this Guyana attack though so the runs should flow.

The one thing we did see on Wednesday evening is that the outfield was nice and fast. There were 26 fours in that match and usually the outfields here can be a little heavy hence why the sixes count usually stays close to the fours one. I’m not going to get involved with whether the ball clears the rope or doesn’t here, especially with Joshua da Silva and Corbin Bosch batting at three and four for the Patriots. I’ll just back the runs to mount up and go beyond 325.5 runs.
