Euro 2024 Qualifying – Play-Off Semi-Final Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The last chance for a spot at Euro 2024 begins for 12 nations on Thursday evening when they battle it out in the qualifying play-off semi-finals with spots in the three finals on Tuesday up for grabs for those sides in action.

The winners will know they will be a win away from competing in Germany in the summer, while the losers will know that they will be watching the tournament from their hotel room while on holiday so there is plenty at stake here.

Thursday’s fixtures are as follows: (19.45 UK time unless stated)

Poland v Estonia

Wales v Finland

Bosnia-Herzegovina v Ukraine

Israel v Iceland

Georgia v Luxembourg (17.00)

Greece v Kazakhstan

Preview

The fixtures are laid out above in order of the draw bracket so the top two matches form one play-off route, the middle two another and the last two games the other path into the finals. In the top route British eyes will be on the Cardiff City Stadium to see if Wales can see off Finland and book their spot in the final on Tuesday. They did exactly that for the World Cup so they know how to do it. Poland play host to Estonia in the other game in that section.

In the middle section there will be plenty of romantics who will be hoping that Ukraine can come through to the next stage. Bosnia-Herzegovina will have something to say about that. Whoever wins that tie will go up against the winners of the match between Israel and Iceland. The bottom path through is about the weaker sides left in the mix. Georgia play host to Luxembourg in the early kick off with the winner knowing they will be at home in the final on Tuesday where whoever comes out on top between Greece and Kazakhstan will be the opponent.

Betting

We should be in for a very competitive evening of football on Thursday and for me the best bet could come in the match between Greece and Kazakhstan where I like the idea of a few goals so I am enjoying the fact that we can get a 2.25 goal line. Kazakhstan scored in all but one of their qualifying matches. The game they failed to score in was against a Finland side who on their travels go about parking the bus. They scored in both meetings with Denmark and notched 16 goals in their 10 games overall, although at the other end even San Marino scored against them which would be a concern.

This Greece side is much more attacking under Gus Poyet and they scored in every match in their group apart from the teams who qualified in the form of France and the Netherlands. They have Giorgos Giakoumakis in good scoring form at the minute and goals generally around their side. Kazakhstan interestingly managed to get together for a friendly last week to warm up for this match so they are giving this a right good go and so I fancy this will be one of those ties where both teams go about looking to win rather than the tense and nervy affairs that some will be. I like over 2.25 goals in this one.
