SA20 2024 Qualifier 1 – Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Durban’s Super Giants Tips and Betting Preview

The closing stages of the SA20 season begin on Tuesday when the top two teams in the table battle it out for the first place in the final when the Sunrisers Eastern Cape go up against the Durban’s Super Giants in Cape Town.

The Sunrisers are looking to defend the title and ended up as the best team in the regular season. Durban weren’t far behind them so this should be a cracking match with the winner going through to the final and the loser getting a second chance to make it on Thursday.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape weren’t the best team in the regular season last term but they came good when it really mattered in the postseason. They have been the best side so far this season and they will be hoping that better record propels them into the final at the first time of asking here. They won seven of their nine completed matches and nailed top spot on the final day of the regular season when they won their fourth match in succession.

The Sunrisers have got better the longer the season has gone on and a large part of that is because their batting has improved more and more. They have generally bowled really well this season, as they did last term, and have an attack which can cope with whatever conditions they come up against and that isn’t something you can say about every team in this tournament. They didn’t send players up the order in their last regular season game though which might be a concern.

Durban’s Super Giants

The Durban’s Super Giants were probably the best team over the course of the regular season but because they chose to rotate their batting order in their last two matches their results dipped a touch and they ended up coming second in the standings but for me while their games had a competitive edge to them they were the best team in the competition. That stands for nothing now though but you do wonder if they are better prepared for this match.

The reason I say that is they took advantage of the opportunity to try a few things out and get those who hadn’t had time in the middle a bat in the heat of the moment so now if they do lose a couple of early wickets they will be sending players with some form into bat for them. The concern though, as it has been for the majority of the campaign, is the bowling, which has just given up more than 200 to a poor Joburg Super Kings side and looks like it can go the distance.

Key Players

Liam Dawson could be a big player for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in this match. There is a feeling that at this stage of the season the wickets will turn and Dawson is very good with the ball. He can also clobber a few big hits at the back end of the innings too.

On a pitch which might favour the spinners Heinrich Klaasen and his potential to destroy spin bowling with his clean power hitting could be a significant weapon for the Durban’s Super Giants in this encounter.

Betting

I’m a little surprised that the sixes line is as low as 13.5 in this match because this isn’t the biggest ground in the world and there is some serious power on show in this contest. This isn’t a straight knockout so the batters can pin their ears back and play with a little bit of freedom. When the Sunrisers Eastern Cape played on this ground they bludgeoned 10 sixes and while Durban only hit four it was a rare bad day at the office for them.

Both the regular season matches between these two were pretty high scoring and you only have to look down the batting orders of these two teams to see the power that is on show. Sunrisers have grown into the tournament with the bat and Durban have just made sure all of their batting order have had some time in the middle. This all looks to be a game where the sixes can flow and I am happy to get on over 13.5 of them.
