Super League XXIX – Saturday 30th March Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXIX Rivals Weekend continues on Saturday when another double header of action takes place as four more sides battle it out for two points and in certain cases all of the bragging rights which come with them.

As is the case throughout the entire season all of the matches are live on TV which means that there is no reason not to put our feet up on the couch and enjoy four hours or so of what should be extremely competitive rugby.

Warrington Wolves vs Catalans Dragons (15.00 – Sky Sports Action & BBC iPlayer)

The first match of the day comes from the Halliwell Jones Stadium as the Warrington Wolves play host to the team who are supposedly their rivals in the competition in Catalans Dragons but I think it is fair to say that it isn’t the fiercest rivalry known to man.

It could be a rivalry in terms of league position if not a geographical one though and the Dragons will head to Warrington knowing that they have already beaten Warrington this season, having done so in the opening round of games down in France. Warrington haven’t lost since then though and look to be finding a bit of a groove under Sam Burgess and it will be interesting to see if that continues or whether their good recent run has just been the kindness of the fixture schedule. In the past we’d always be worried that Catalans aren’t the best travellers but I think they have largely put that behind them but my worry is whether they are as strong as in previous years. It might be that this match gives us the answer for that. I suspect Warrington are just about worthy favourites but I don’t really have a strong enough view either way to get involved here.

Salford Red Devils vs Leigh Leopards (17.30 – Sky Sports Action)

The second match of the day is very much a geographical rivalry as the Salford Red Devils play host to the Leigh Leopards in a match where I expect there to be plenty of fireworks and no shortage of competitive action.

Leigh might not view this rivalry as strongly as the one they have with Wigan which comes along next week but these two sides are close enough in location for this to be a big game for both. Salford will be smarting from a 40-0 loss at Hull KR in the cup last week while Leigh haven’t really got going in the Super League yet this term, with just the one win in their five matches and that came against a pretty ordinary looking Hull FC side. The Leopards will certainly need another win to convince me that they are back to anything close to what we saw from them last season but with the likes of Edwin Ipape and John Asiata both out with injury that is two huge players the Leopards are without and we shouldn’t really downplay the absence of Tom Briscoe either. Salford are close enough to full strength and where this might be won and lost is in the discipline. Leigh can sometimes lose theirs and if they do that here I think Salford will punish them. I think last week the Red Devils just ran into a juggernaut at the wrong time and I think they’ll bounce back here.
