Super League XXVIII – Saturday 29th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXVIII weekend continues on Saturday when another two matches take place in what is proving to be quite a dramatic round of fixtures as we enter the final third of a compelling regular season.

This is one of those rare Saturdays where we have a TV match to enjoy. That is then followed by the offering from France which will need to be followed digitally if you don’t have a ticket to the home of the league leaders.

Wigan Warriors vs Leigh Leopards (13.00 – Channel 4)

The opening match of the day is a local derby of sorts as the Wigan Warriors will look to put the disappointment of losing in the Challenge Cup semi-final last weekend behind them when they take on the winners of the other last four clash in Leigh Leopards.

Leigh are going to be riding the crest of a wave heading into this one. Securing a spot at Wembley was a huge achievement for them but they need to get straight back down to business because they have a chance to go level on points with the league leaders with a win here. A Wigan win by any reasonable margin will move them above Leigh into second spot in the table so there is plenty to play for in this one. I fancy we are going to get treated to a really good game too. Wigan have all of their pacey backs available for this match and their forwards will be boosted by the new signing Tyler Dupree who brings real quality to that area of the pack. Leigh are as potent as you’ll find on their left edge and have quality through their side. The one thing I do expect the longer this match goes on is for the defences to tire. Both teams were involved in epic Challenge Cup quarter finals last weekend and that will take its toll at some point in this one so I fancy we are going to see a lot of points in this one. A tired Leigh defence will struggle to keep up with the Wigan backs but with the clever Lachlan Lam pulling the strings for the Leopards they have points in them too. 40.5 is the line for this match and that looks a shade on the low side. I’ll play the over.

Catalans Dragons vs Salford Red Devils (18.00)

The second match of what looks like an exciting day in the competition on Saturday comes from over in France where Catalans Dragons will look to remain clear of the chasing pack when they host an out of form Salford Red Devils.

The Red Devils head across the channel having lost their last five in Super League and while they won both meetings with the Dragons last season and have already beaten them this term, they are really up against it here. Losing Tyler Dupree to Wigan hasn’t helped either. Catalans are beginning to look the real deal this season. Their win at St Helens prior to having last weekend off really should have caught the eye of everyone who has eyes on this competition and with the week off to nurse any knocks and bruises you would imagine this is not a good time to be coming up against the French outfit. We know the Dragons can maul anyone when they are in the mood and Salford might be ripe for being torn apart but they seem to match up well to the Catalans in recent times. I still expect a French win but with quotes of 1/4 around it happening I’m happy to let them win if they are good enough.
