Previously engaged as a mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants in the past two IPL seasons, Gambhir is excited about his return to Kolkata, ending his association with Lucknow. His enthusiasm for reuniting with his former team is palpable.

Expressing his emotions, Gambhir stated, “I’m not usually sentimental, but this feels different. Returning to where my journey began. There’s a certain passion within me as I don the purple and gold once again. It’s not just about joining KKR; it’s about returning to the city of joy. I’m back, eager and driven. I am number 23. I am KKR.”

Kolkata’s leader, Shah Rukh Khan, acknowledged Gambhir’s significance within the KKR family, welcoming his return in a new role as a consultant. Khan, along with Chandrakant, expressed their eagerness to witness Gambhir’s contributions.

Speculation surrounding Gambhir’s move back to Kolkata had been rife for some time. Recent changes within Lucknow’s coaching staff added fuel to this speculation. Notably, the team chose not to extend Andy Flower’s contract as head coach, appointing former Australian coach Justin Langer in his place. Additionally, Lucknow added MSK Prasad, a former cricketer and ex-chief selector of the national team, as a cricket advisor.
